When a man suddenly starts using his initials for a stage name, he must have something to hide… Or maybe he’s a true narcissist-son-of-a-**** For DeeCee it’s something completely different, though.
1st: What kind of artist would want to call himself Dirk Cassiers?? 2nd: A new name for a new era!

This self-made singer/songwriter started out doing sound-mix contests @ the age of 14; singing stuff from Philip Bailey and Maurice White (from the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire). At the same time he kicked off playing the drums self-taught. But @ 17 he put his sticks aside for a more frontal attack: the audience! He was now a front-man singing the blues!
Back in the 90’s, DeeCee & his brother Jo toured with their band Orphan. They scored a hit single with Stuck in the middle, from their album ‘SeptemberRain’. Two more songs from that album were featured on the soundtrack of the American movie Friends & Lovers. Along with a concert @ the Royal Academy in Hollywood, this was one of Orphan’s highlights.

In the beginning of the new Millennium (2002-05) DeeCee recorded two albums under the SoulBob brand. The first one, See you on the moon featured the title-track (Heaven can wait) of the popular police series Flikken on Belgian national television (VRT).
The second album, Nightcap was a more intimate and jazzy collection of jazz & soul standards. These recordings featured the crème de la crème of Belgium’s jazz players, of which Michelino Bisceglia, Bruno Castelluci, Frederix Leroux and Steven Van Looy.

In 2006 though, Dee Cee felt the urge to change his musical ways. So, he started off a new project with bold, funky & up-to-date stuff with his musical soulmate BabL With a brand new musical alter ego, DeeCee proudly presents his new kick-*ss band: SANDBLASTER

BabL is a true Jack Of All trades when it comes to the music bizz.
This classically trained pianist/violinist started out listening to funk/jazz/soul records @ the age of 12. He began writing his own first tunes @ the age of 13, mainly inspired by Kid Creole, James Brown, Prince & so on. He eventually traded in his violin for a couple of drumstix…

As a teenager he took his first steps in the world of recording, synths & music electronics. Later on, he spent some time in Paris workin’ the piano @ the city’s notorious jazz clubs.
As a solo artist - known as Babelina- he’s been doin’ loads of gigz with his own band the last few years. Amongst many other festivals, he performed @ the North Sea Jazz Festival (NL) & Polé Polé Fesitval (B).

As a freelance pianist/keyboardist, he’s played with Belgian artists such as, Kate Ryan, Coco Jr & The All Stars, Soulbob, Sonny O’Brien, Natalia and many more. For SANDBLASTER, BabL is the musical engine. He takes credit for the production, piano+key’s, programming, arrangements, engineering and mixing.
